Due Date: Wednesday @ 11:55pm

  1. Discussion Forum - 20 points
  2. Differentiated Lesson Plan - 100 points

The pre-service teacher/candidate will watch the Videos from the Teaching Channel, then discuss and evaluate in the discussion forum under Day 3 in the portal what you would do differently if you were teaching this lesson while reflecting on higher-order thinking, research based instructional practices for reading critically and using writing to develop students’ comprehension of text.

  • The pre-service teacher/candidate will write a Differentiated Lesson Plan using the FSC lesson plan template on a reading subject of their choice including higher order thinking, writing, and reading critically. Be sure to select appropriate resources for the subject matter and students’ literacy levels.

Submit it to the “Coursework” section in the portal.

  1. Standards Presentations - 100 points

ELEM C&S 5.4; 5.6

ESOL C&S 6.4

Pre-service teacher/candidates will review “The Common Core” bookmarks, handouts and self-research. The pre-service teacher/candidates will create a 15 – 20 slide presentation (PowerPoint, Prezi, etc) on key points and instructional ideas for each of the 10 anchor standards. In addition, pre-service teacher/candidates will select and evaluate a wide variety of resources, including both print and technology, for use in teaching the standards.

As part of the presentation, each pre-service teacher/candidates is required to teach a mini-lesson from 1 of the 10 anchor standards, including ESOL accommodations and appropriate standards-based reading instruction. This lesson plan can be one of the lessons in the Lesson Plan Unit for Differentiating Instruction in Reading and Content Areas.

The Presentation and Lesson Plan must be submitted to the Portal at the same time if being completed on 2 separate documents. You may include the Lesson Plan within your Presentation (copying and pasting the FSC Lesson Plan Template into the Presentation) or two separate documents.

Submit it to the “Coursework” section in the portal.
