First Paralympic Medal Won By A Florida Southern College Student
Florida Southern College’s history with the highest levels of international competition grew in August with the addition of a bronze medal from Paralympian Jenson Van Emburgh, who tied for third in the Class 3 table tennis event held in late August in Tokyo, Japan.
A Boat Trip That Changed Many Lives
Dr. Garcia, who is an associate professor of Hispanic literature and Latin American studies at Florida Southern College, was a participant in the 1980’s Mariel Boat Lift, which ushered in the immigration of thousands of Cuban refugees to the United States and changed their lives as well as the culture of many parts of the United States.
Florida Southern College Celebrates First Endowed Scholarship In Finance
Ashley A. Bailey and Nolen B. Bailey, native Floridians and graduates from Florida Southern College’s Business and Education programs respectively, have generously established the Ashley A. Bailey, M.Ed. ’16 & Nolen B. Bailey ’07 / CPS Investment Advisors Endowed Scholarship. The donation establishes the first endowed scholarship for Florida Southern College’s new finance major.
Learning with Dinosaurs? Jurassic Park and Engaged Learning at Florida Southern College
For the third year in a row, Florida Southern brought a large portion of its incoming freshmen learning communities together for an engaged, student-driven learning experience. Students from the biology, psychology, computer science, education, communications, and business first-year learning communities gathered under white-top tents outside of Branscomb Auditorium to eat dino-themed snacks and check out each other’s costumes before making their way inside to chat with different student club representatives and settle in for a screening of the Hollywood blockbuster Jurassic Park.
Fall 2021 Research Marathon for Doctor of Education (EdD) A Success
On Saturday, September 25, approximately 35 students in the Doctor of Education (EdD) program at Florida Southern College gathered with the Roux librarians, a dozen faculty members, and several staff members for the Fall 2021 Research Marathon. Florida Southern Provost Dr. Brad Hollingshead and Associate Provost Dr. Tracey Tedder also visited the event to provide their encouragement. It was the 7th research marathon that the Roux Library and the EdD Program have co-hosted.

FSC Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council Maps Out Future
Florida Southern College’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council (DEIC) met by Zoom on September 30, 2021, to discuss the council’s organization, review the College’s efforts to foster a culture of diversity and inclusion on campus, and to consider ways of incorporating honest feedback from FSC students on the council’s work, recommendations, and outcomes.
Dr. Sara Fletcher Harding Appointed New Dean Of Arts & Sciences At Florida Southern College
Florida Southern College (FSC) has appointed Dr. Sara Fletcher Harding as the new Dean of the School of Arts & Sciences, FSC’s largest school. Dean Harding served as interim dean for the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 academic years, and she holds faculty rank as a tenured Professor of Religion.
